Cornelius Barnes
I knew at a very young age that I was interested in learning mathematics. I found Algebra at the age of nine. I found the world of math endlessly fascinating, and I could never gain enough new information!
As an educator, my educational and professional endeavors have led to positions with Southwest Community College, LeMoyne-Owen College (Upward Bound/TRIO Program), A to Z Tutoring, Sylvan Learning Center, Saturday’s Scholar as well as private, public and rural schools. I was born and raised in New Orleans, LA, graduated as valedictorian of my high school class in 1989 and was awarded a full tuition academic scholarship to Dillard University in New Orleans, LA.
While math has always been my favorite academic subject, my true passion is to teach it to those who genuinely wish to learn it. I live to help others learn math! I understand the frustration and difficulty of learning mathematics concepts, but I also know how to make it simple so that it “clicks.” I can see the exact moment when that “click” occurs, and this is incredibly rewarding for the student and for me. I really enjoy classroom teaching, but I have found working one-on-one with students and witnessing those wonderful a-ha moments firsthand more rewarding.
